At the AGM, we thanked long-serving board member Jill Vaisey for her dedication to RHS. Jill’s work connecting the membership with opportunities to serve on the board, planning events and providing a valued voice during meetings will be greatly missed, but a break is greatly deserved. Thank you, Jill, for your years of service.

December 7th, 2023, is the RHS Christmas Pot-Luck Social at St. Paul’s Cathedral.   

RHS members Christmas pot luck will be held at St Paul’s Cathedral again this year. We always have a great turn out. It is such fun meeting other members, when we can relax after a busy gardening year and before we start planning and planting for next spring. The RHS supplies the turkey, members are asked to contribute the sides and desserts by pot luck.

The event is for members only, there is no charge, and you are welcome to bring a special guest at no charge. If you don’t already have a membership, check our website for membership information.  New memberships paid now for 2024 will include this event.

You will receive an email with registration details. The board will provide hot turkey, gravy, and potatoes and you are asked to bring sides and desserts. Doors will open at 5:30 pm, dinner at 6 pm.

We hope to see you there!

Admission for events and educational sessions are included with the yearly membership. Memberships are sold at the door as well as from the website. Admission is $5.00/education session for non-members. Membership year runs from January 1 to December 31 each year.

Immediately after our Annual AGM Phil Johnson will be talking about permaculture and ecological gardening. Many people are wondering what they can do to live sustainably, grow some food, have a beautiful yard, not be overrun by pests, and improve the environment in their own little corner of the world – all at the same time! Permaculture and ecological gardening are holistic approaches to gardening and can be practiced in any landscape, from farm and park to the back yard. They are approaches that work with nature to create a healthy, beautiful, and productive garden. This talk will cover basic theory and principles, but will mostly focus on what you can do in your own yard, including design, plant selection, maintenance and more.

Admission $5.00 for non-members sold at the door.

NOTICE OF MEETING

The Annual General Meeting of the Regina Horticultural Society will
be held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, October 26 at St Paul’s Anglican Cathedral,
1861 McIntyre St.

The brief annual meeting will be followed by our October educational presentation on applying permaculture practices to the urban garden
Members will receive the meeting agenda and information package, including financial statements, and the proposed bylaw amendments by email in advance of the meeting.

From hardy flower bulbs and garlic to winter harvesting root vegetables – join us to discover what to plant this fall and how to enjoy fresh-grown food well into early winter.

Sheila’s expert eye is focused on choosing plants that flourish and complement each other using texture, movement, and colour. She has been gardening on the prairies for more than 25 years and has a Master Gardener designation form the University of Saskatchewan.

Sheila is the owner of Mannequin Gardening Solutions in Regina and a sponsor of RHS. She provides landscape design, presentations, hands on workshops and on-line and in person lectures.
